Semantic fisheye views for multimedia information workspaces
Description:
This research project is developing a context-aware multimedia information workspace based on Semantic Fisheye Views (SFEVs)to search through, browse, organize, and synthesize large personal collections of multimedia documents.
This work focuses especially on annotated images, although the results are generalizable to other multimedia document types that are managed by their metadata.
Goals:
This research project will contribute to the domain in several ways.
First, we will extend the current understanding of SFEVs through the development of a taxonomy of current and potential techniques.
Second, we will develop a software framework to generally support user-configuration of the wide range of SFEV techniques.
Third, we will design and implement an information workspace based on this framework demonstrating how SFEV techniques can be used to support context across different tasks.
Finally, we will evaluate the effectiveness of these SFEV techniques compared to current alternative methods for information-seeking tasks.
